Measuring thickness of paint using paint thickness gauges in any painting project is important. If you know the thickness of your paint, you will be able to ensure the quality of your product, process control and manage your budget.

There are several types of gauges and other tools that you can use to determine the different factors that will render your painting project successful but one of the most utilized and most relied on gadget is the paint thickness gauge. It can accurately and quantifiably assess a car's condition based on the thickness of its paint.

A car can look brand new and can even look exceptional when viewed at certain angle despite of previous accidents. However, with the use of paint thickness gauge you will determine if a car have gone thru intense refurbishing before it was proclaimed brand new by the car dealer.

For car manufacturers, such gauges can be beneficial in achieving quality control to their client's satisfaction. Gauging the depth of a paint coating does not damage the car's paint in any way. Some manufacturers utilize magnets for cars with steel backings while others use electrical currents for fiberglass and plastics.

The paint thickness gauges that use magnets are typically easy to use and cheaper. Magnetic gauges are handy and they analyze paint thickness based on its pull-off force. Thick paints have less magnetic reaction while thin coatings have stronger attraction.

For these gauges that uses electronic gadget, the change in the magnetic flux density at the surface magnetic probe is measured the moment it gets near to a steel surface. The measurement of the magnetic flux density determines the thickness of paint coating in a particular object.

The paint thickness of non-metal surfaces is used with paint thickness gauges using pulse-echo technique wherein the device sends electrical signal through the coating which would then be analyzed to determine its thickness. In factories, such paint heaviness gauge can be beneficial in achieving high quality for their client's satisfaction

To maintain the effectiveness of gauges and other tools, store them in secure cases when not in use since they are fully calibrated. Re-calibrate the device as often as you need to.
